The Power of Intentions: Small Words, Big Shifts

There was a time when I thought intentions were just "nice words." Something you say in the morning and forget by lunch.

But over the years — through motherhood, stress, healing, perimenopause, nervous system work, Reiki, and learning to slow down, I've realized something powerful…

Intentions change everything.

Not because they magically fix your life. But because they gently guide it.

What Is an Intention?

An intention is not a goal.

A Goal Says

"I need to achieve this."

An Intention Says

"This is how I want to feel while I'm living my life."

Goals are about outcomes.
Intentions are about alignment.

For example:

A Goal

Lose 10 pounds

Creates pressure…

An Intention

I choose to treat my body with respect

Creates awareness…

Why Intentions Matter (Especially for Moms)

As moms, we are pulled in a hundred directions every single day. We wake up already thinking about everyone else. Lunches. Appointments. Texts. Work. Laundry. Emotional support.

Intentions bring you back to yourself.

They help you pause and ask:

  • How do I want to show up today?
  • What energy do I want to bring into this room?
  • What kind of mother, partner, and woman am I becoming?

When you set an intention, you are rooting yourself before the day begins.
And rooted women move differently.

How to Set an Intention (Simple + Realistic)

It doesn't have to be complicated. In fact, the simpler the better. Here's how I do it:

1

Pause

Take one deep breath.

2

Check In

Ask, "What do I need today?"

3

Choose

One word or sentence.

That's it.

Some of my favorite intentions lately have been:

I move through today with calm.

I respond instead of react.

I choose patience.

I trust my body.

I am grounded and supported.

You don't need a perfect morning routine. You don't need an hour of meditation. You just need a moment of awareness. Even setting an intention while sitting in your car before walking into work counts.

Intentions and Your Nervous System

When we live in stress mode, we react from survival. Intentions gently shift us out of survival and into presence.

  • When you say, "Today I choose calm," your brain starts looking for calm.
  • When you say, "I choose gratitude," your heart starts noticing what's working instead of what's missing.

It's subtle. But it's powerful. And over time, those small shifts change the way you experience your life.

The Truth About Intentions

  • You will forget them sometimes.

  • You will lose your patience.

  • You will snap.

  • You will feel overwhelmed.

That doesn't mean your intention failed. It just means you're human.

Intentions aren't about perfection. They are about returning. Returning to yourself. Returning to your values. Returning to the woman you are becoming.

And that, to me, is where real growth lives.

If this spoke to you, I invite you to try one simple thing tomorrow:

Before you reach for your phone, set one intention.

Just one.

Then watch how differently your day unfolds.

Rooted. Present. Intentional. 💛
